Resolving the Health Care Crisis

Is it any wonder that we have a health care crisis? It’s a sad fact that the medical system operates from a paradigm of disease management. Little is said about health care. Many people say, “I have insurance.” Here’s another sad fact. We always like to get our money’s worth. And what does insurance cover? Hospitalization, drugs & surgery. Contrary to centuries of civilized living, we have outrageously opted for a pre-emptive war {actually having Stone Age origins}; and yet, preventive medicine – acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, lifestyle consultations to name a few – is looked upon by most medical “cognoscenti” as one step short of voodoo. Wisdom teaches:

If You always do what You’ve always done,

You’ll always get what You’ve always gotten!

Wisdom tells us to open our eyes. We are regressing rather than progressing. We have more diseases, more resistance to drugs, more iatrogenic diseases (now the 3rd leading cause of death!), more autism, more childhood obesity, younger onset of “adult” diabetes and a host of other degenerative diseases. The list goes on. What’s the answer? The pundit asks: “What’s the opposite of progress?” “Congress.” And it’s clear, we cannot legislate health. And equally clear that we cannot expect the Scribes of the pharmaceutical companies to be of much help. These well-intentioned physicians only do what they are told. Big Pharma funds the medical schools, selects the curricula, textbooks and professors, and then sends representatives to the office with samples and further brainwashing with the “latest” drug discoveries.

This is not to disparage medical doctors as a whole. Thank Goodness for the technical advances in fields such as microsurgery and trauma care – and for the wonder drugs that can keep people alive. The danger comes when we are glibly told: “You will have to take these drugs for the rest of Your life.” Well, it’s one thing to take drugs in an emergency, even for a few weeks until things begin to stabilize. In the meantime, let’s look at some of the probable causes of the current condition, as well as some lifestyle changes to correct the situation. More and more physicians are becoming doctors (the Latin word for teacher) and spending more time helping people recover their health without the side effects associated with long-term drug usage; more and more doctors are offering nutritional and lifestyle information. We will only resolve the Health Care Crisis when we resolve to take care of our health.

Probable Causes of Disease

“The most thrilling experience I can recall

was to see cancer cells taken from a human body

and thriving on cooked food,

but unable to survive on the same food when it was uncooked.”

--Be Your Own Doctor, Dr. Ann Wigmore

All diseases thrive in an environment that is highly acidic, low in oxygen and rich in sugars. Acids are abundant in the Standard American Diet. To further complicate the dangerous acids, cooking destroys oxygen. The first symptoms of over-acidity and lack of oxygen are fatigue, slow healing wounds and infections. Chronic manifestations are found in altered brain function, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart challenges and every other chronic degenerative disease, including every “named” disease – such as Epstein-Barre, Lupus and Lyme’s disease, to name a few. Our external environment suffers from oxygen depletion, and an ozone producing air purifier can offset this to a certain extent, especially if it also emits the natural proportions of negative and positive ions. This is especially important when the windows are closed due to heating or air-conditioning. Without a doubt, the most profound change we can make is in our internal environment.

What are the dietary sources of oxygen? Oxygen in fats is less than 15%. Depending on the amino acid profile, proteins can range from 20-40%. Combined, fats and proteins - animal foods - require large amounts of oxygen to metabolize them. This is also true of refined carbohydrates such as white flour, sugar and rice, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and, especially, sodas. Cooked food and all forms of junk food are low in oxygen and high in toxins. These foods force us to use the available oxygen to oxidize synthetic chemicals and preservatives, and to metabolize the pitifully few nutrients that are there.

Foods that are high in oxygen are fresh juices, fresh vegetables, whole grains such as millet and quinoa, nuts and seeds - especially when germinated and/or sprouted. Oxygen comprises over 50% of the weight of these foods! Greens are a wonderful source of oxygen and nutrition. While commercial produce is used in studies and shows healing results with members of the cabbage and onion families, even more profound results are obtained by using organic produce, sprouts and algae - such as the wild grown seaweeds and the blue green algae from Upper Klamath Lake. Angstrom-sized, water-soluble minerals, vitamins and plant nutrients play a key role.

In addition to including alkaline, oxygen-rich foods – avoid sugars like the plague. Cancer and all degenerative diseases thrive on an oxygen depleted, acidic, sweet environment. So, if this is Your situation, avoid all fruits, as well as carrots and beets (especially their juices) because of their high sugar content.

These simple dietary changes, along with pure water, reasonable exercise, proper rest, meditation and positive thought forms empower us, and bring healing to the body, mind and spirit. Stress, whether physical, emotional or mental, also depletes oxygen. All these factors produce acid forming elements and they suck up oxygen like a sponge to neutralize the acidic toxins; the body does what it must for survival. During times of stress it is crucial to breathe deeply and consciously. The benefits of these recommendations are well documented by five decades of research.
